Central Coast Energy Assessments NatHERS BASIX

What is NatHERS?

NatHERS is the acronym for Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme, which is a software simulation tool to provide star ratings to new dwellings, alterations & additions and existing homes.

NatHERS star ratings provide information about the thermal performance (heating and cooling needs) of a home.

A star rating is out of 10 (min 7.0) and considers a home’s design, orientation, construction materials, as well as the local climate.

NatHERS is being used by the Finance sector to underpin Green Loans as well as support the Building Industry to demonstrate compliance with the National Construction Code (NCC).

A NatHERS Assessment can only be performed by an Accredited Thermal Performance Assessor.

When do I need a NatHERS Assessment?

A NatHERS Assessment is required for all New Residential Buildings, Alterations & Additions over $50,000, as it demonstrate that your home meets the minimum energy efficiency requirements outlined in the National Construction Code (NCC).

How long does the NatHERS Certificate last?

The NatHERS Certificate does not have a validity period, however 12 months from the date of issue the certificate becomes locked for editing.

What is the difference between a BASIX Certificate and a NatHERS Energy Rating?

BASIX is a NSW government initiative focusing on water, energy and thermal performance.  NatHERS is a national scheme that primarily assesses a home’s thermal performance and provides a star rating based on the design’s energy efficiency.

The NatHERS assessment can be used for a more accurate and flexible assessment as part of the thermal performance of the BASIX Certificate.

In order to achieve the best thermal performance at the lowest cost we recommend using both BASIX and a NatHERS energy rating.
